What's that

WHAT'S THAT

Hi, we are Luca and Maurizio, Italian designers from Turin, spending our last academic year in Shanghai for a Double-Degree Master program in sustainability. OneYearInChina.com is our personal project we developed during these months. It is a collection of pictures, sorted by date, through which we would like to point out the good and the bad aspects of living abroad, in a totally different context from ours. The pictures are so different that is quite hard to catalogue them: some of them are funny, some other are serious. We hope you'll enjoy this project and that it can be the starting point for discussions and a source of inspiration.

THE JOURNEY

China is a totally different world from the one we were used to. We were not expecting such an amazing and educational experience.
We want to share with you our journey and the most significant events.

    Time to leave!

    After a long planning, finally it's time to take off. We should have left together, but Maurizio felt sick. Such a nice way to start that experience! Luca took his flight alone, spending some days in Dubai!

    Maurizio joins Luca

    Finally, after one week, Maurizio reaches Luca in Shanghai. Lessons at Tongji University started that day. Impressed by the city and because of the jet lag both of them couldn't sleep correctly for almost two weeks.

    VIP Guest on the Shanghai F1 Circuit

    In occasion of the F1 Shanghai Grand Prix, Maurizio has been guest in the Ferrari MScape Lounge, since he collaborated in the design and mounting of it. A great experience he'll never forget.

    Visit to Changsha and Pingxiang area

    Together with Yue China Foundation, we have been involved in a trip to Hunan and Jianxi Province, in which we got in touch with the local governments for the developments or rural areas and the discovery of traditional heritage and handicrafts

    In Malaysia with Magda

    During the summer Luca decided to blend holiday and work spending some weeks following Magda Sayeg’s projects in Penang island. Beaches, sun and fun but also hard work to develop the social media strategy and contents for #magdapenang

    After the trip to Hunan province and many hours spent on the design, the final prototypes arrived to the Yue China Store. They were not only exhibited in Shanghai but also at the Milan International EXPO.

    Interview @ Radio Meyooo

    Too many experiences, too many stories to tell. Luca and Maurizio have been invited to the Italian Radio Meyooo, leaded by the coach Andrea Rinaldi. An occasion to share their Chinese journey but also to discuss about environment and sustainability.

    Thesis discussion

    The project 菜家 is finished, the papers are printed out, the tie (or bow tie) is tied. The most important day of the year has arrived! The Chinese thesis discussion has been done successfully: the two fresh Doctors are ready to come back in their homeland.

    The departure

    One year full of amazing experiences and emotions has finished. Luca and Maurizio departed from China, leaving behind a piece of heart... but also a couple of luggages in the airport! If you leave something somewhere, it means that you need to come back!
